ARTETA AGREES NEW ARSENAL DEAL TO EXTEND EMIRATES REIGN.
Mikel Arteta has agreed a new and improved contract with Premier League champions Arsenal, extending his stay at the club beyond the end of the season.
The Spaniard’s existing deal expires this season, but negotiations have been ongoing for several months before both parties reached a final agreement.
The length of the new contract has not been confirmed, but it is expected to keep Arteta at Arsenal into at least his 10th year since arriving in December 2019.
The new agreement will also see the 43-year-old receive a significant pay rise from his current £10m-a-year salary, with bonuses taking his potential earnings higher.
Arteta had previously eased concerns over his future, insisting Arsenal supporters had no reason to worry.
“I’m extremely happy, and I feel very grateful to work with the people I work with,” he said.
Arteta guided Arsenal to their first Premier League title in 20 years last season, while they also came within a penalty kick of winning their first Champions League crown.
The manager has consistently expressed his desire to remain at Arsenal, with the club’s recent progress forming the basis of his decision to continue the project.
His new deal now provides further stability as Arsenal look to build on their transformation under the Spaniard.
