Croatia Beat Czech Republic 2-1 as Modric Leads Winning Start
Croatia opened their UEFA Nations League campaign with a 2-1 victory over the Czech Republic, ending the hosts’ 19-match unbeaten run at home and giving Slaven Bilic a winning return.
The first half produced few clear chances, but Croatia gradually took control.
Luka Modric broke the deadlock shortly after the restart, racing into the box before firing a powerful strike into the far corner.
Czech Republic responded through Adam Karabec, who calmly finished inside the area to level the score.
Croatia regained the lead with 15 minutes remaining when Marco Pasalic headed home Ivan Perisic’s cross.
The hosts thought they had equalised again late on, but Matej Radosta’s effort was ruled out for offside as Croatia held on for a valuable three points.
