MAN CITY CHAIRMAN AL MUBARAK PLEDGES TO PROVE INNOCENCE OVER 114 CHARGES
Manchester City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak has insisted the club remains confident of proving its innocence after an independent commission reportedly found it guilty of 114 of the 115 Premier League financial charges.
In an open letter to supporters, Al Mubarak said the legal process was far from over and that City’s position had not changed.
The club is expected to appeal the reported findings, with sanctions yet to be determined.
“The Premier League process still has a long way to run, and our confidence and intent in proving the Club’s innocence is just as strong as when this began,” Al Mubarak wrote.
The chairman said City could not reveal more details because of the confidentiality surrounding the case, adding that even his letter had undergone legal checks before publication.
City also reiterated its position that it had respected due process throughout the eight-year process and expected the Premier League to act as an independent, impartial and fair-minded regulator.
The charges cover alleged breaches between 2009/10 and 2017/18, including financial reporting, player and manager payments, Financial Fair Play, profitability and sustainability rules, and cooperation with the Premier League’s investigation.
Al Mubarak also urged supporters not to be distracted by the controversy, saying City had “faced challenges together before and have prevailed.”
He pointed to upcoming fixtures against Liverpool at Anfield and Paris Saint-Germain at the Etihad after the international break, before thanking supporters for their continued backing.
